This is the Pill Bug, an enemy character I developed for the stylized action-adventure game My Dragonni. I was responsible for the complete creation of the character, including modeling, rigging, animation, and the design of multiple skin variations.
✦ Design & Modeling
The character was designed to fit within the game’s vibrant and exaggerated art direction. Its form takes inspiration from real-world pill bugs, combined with fantasy elements to create a creature that feels both grounded and expressive. The model emphasizes strong shapes and a readable silhouette to enhance in-game clarity.
✦ Rigging & Animation
The Pill Bug features a custom rig tailored to support a range of dynamic and stylized movements. Special attention was given to the flexibility of the legs, body segments, and mandibles to allow for expressive animation cycles, including walking, rolling, attacking, and idling. Animation was approached with a focus on weight, rhythm, and personality.
✦ Skin Variants
To add variety and support different gameplay contexts, I created several visual variants of the Pill Bug. Each skin introduces distinct color palettes and visual motifs while preserving the character’s core identity. These variations help reinforce its presence across different game environments and difficulty levels.
✦ Art Direction & Integration
Every aspect of the character—from texture style to movement—was crafted to align with the stylized visual language of My Dragonni. The goal was to create an enemy that is both visually appealing and functionally effective in gameplay, with a balance between charm and menace.
This project was a great opportunity to handle all aspects of creature development within a stylized game pipeline, and to push both creative and technical execution in a cohesive way.
